How much does it cost to rent a motorbike in Vietnam?

By Motorbike Dalat ·

Scooters from about 150,000 VND ($6) a day, adventure bikes up to 500,000 VND ($19), plus what is included, what costs extra, and how guided tours compare.

Renting a motorbike in Vietnam is cheap compared with most of the world, and the price almost always includes more than just the bike. Here is what you can expect to pay, what is included, and what costs extra — using our own rates in Dalat as the concrete example.

Our rates in Dalat

These are flat daily prices for riding around Dalat, with a helmet included:

  • Automatic scooters — the Honda Vision 110 and Honda Air Blade 125: 150,000 VND a day, roughly $6
  • Honda XR150L — a dual-sport bike for passes and dirt roads: 400,000 VND a day, roughly $15
  • Honda CB150X — a small adventure-tourer with a windscreen: 500,000 VND a day, roughly $19

Long-distance and one-way rentals are quoted per route, so the daily rate is only part of the story — message us with your route for one total price.

What is included

Every rental comes with the bike checked by our mechanic, a helmet (two for couples), a rain poncho, a phone holder and USB charger on most bikes, the vehicle papers and a written rental contract, and help on the road by phone or WhatsApp any time. See the full list of bikes.

What costs extra

  • Fuel. Scooters sip around 2 L per 100 km, so a day of riding costs less than a coffee. A full tank on the XR150L or CB150X covers a full day and more.
  • A deposit. We ask for a cash deposit, refunded when the bike comes back. Ask us for the amount — we never keep your original passport.
  • A one-way drop-off. Leaving the bike in another city is quoted per route; the further the city, the more the drop-off.
  • Your International Driving Permit. Get it before you leave home, in the country that issued your licence. It is a requirement for every self-ride rental — see our IDP guide.

Prices elsewhere in Vietnam

Dalat's rates are typical for the Central Highlands. In Hanoi, Saigon or Da Nang, a basic automatic scooter usually rents for somewhere in the same ballpark, while bigger bikes and newer models cost more. What varies most is not the number on the sticker — it is what the shop includes, the condition of the bike, and whether the shop asks for your passport as a deposit. We would rather you ask three shops the same question than compare bare prices.

The guided-tour alternative

If you would rather not ride yourself, you can see the same roads from the back of a local guide-rider's bike. A half-day Dalat city tour starts around $25, a full-day countryside tour around $45, and multi-day Easy Rider journeys from about $75 per person per day. No licence needed, and the price includes the riding, the route and a guide who knows the roads.

Long-term and one-way

Staying a while? One-way rentals run from a few days up to about three months, picking up in Dalat and dropping off in Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Saigon, Hoi An or Hanoi. The longer the rental, the more the daily rate flexes — tell us your dates and route and we will quote one clear total. Start with our one-way rental page.
