Good for

When we hand someone the 50cc Scooter

  • Riders with no driving licence or International Driving Permit
  • Your first time on a scooter — automatic, no gears or clutch to learn
  • One rider pottering around town: Xuan Huong Lake, the cafés and the market

Honestly, not for

Mountain passes, two people on Dalat's steep hills or long trips out of town — for those we would give you a bigger bike.

Tell us your route and how much you have ridden before, and we will say which of our bikes we would actually give you.

Why this bike

Why a 50cc in Dalat

Looking for scooter rental in Dalat with no license, or a simple moped rental for getting around town? Our 50cc is a small automatic motorbike you can ride on your own — and the only bike in the shop you can rent without a driving licence.

  • No licence needed

No driving licence and no International Driving Permit. Bring your passport (we take a copy) and the cash deposit, and you can ride.

  • Automatic

Twist the throttle and go. No gears and no clutch, so there is nothing to learn but the brakes.

  • Light and easy to park

Small and light, so it is easy to wheel in and out of the guarded car parks at most sights in town.

  • Cheap to run

A small engine sips fuel on short rides around town.

Where to ride it

Where a 50cc scooter is happy

Dalat is hilly, but most of what people come to see in town is a short ride from the shop. Ride the 50cc there, and take a bigger bike — or a guide — for the rest.

Good on this bike

  • Xuan Huong Lake

The lake in the middle of town, with a road all the way round — the easiest first ride.

  • The market and the old town

The streets around Dalat Market, a short ride from our shop. Steep in places, so take the hills slowly.

  • Crazy House

The fantasy-tree guesthouse south-west of the lake. Go early, before the tour groups.

  • Dalat Railway Station

The 1930s Art Deco station east of the lake, with old carriages on display.

  • Valley of Love

Gardens and a lake north of the centre, quiet on weekday mornings.

  • Tuyen Lam Lake, Truc Lam and Datanla Falls

South of town off the Prenn road. The main road there is busy with buses, so pull in and out carefully.

Take a bigger bike or a tour instead

  • Lang Biang's dirt tracks

Red-dirt tracks through the forest around Lang Biang and Suoi Vang — trail-bike country.

  • The Khanh Le and Ta Nung passes

Long, winding mountain roads, often misty in the morning.

  • Elephant Falls and Pongour Falls

Full-day rides out of Dalat, over passes and along busy main roads.

  • Two people on Dalat's steep hills

A 50cc is happiest with one rider. Two-up, take the Air Blade 125.

For these, rent the Honda Air Blade 125, the Honda XR150L or the Honda CB150X (International Driving Permit needed) — or ride behind a local guide on one of our guided motorbike tours, no licence needed.

1Do you have a motorbike driving licence?

We usually reply within 1 hour, 9:00–18:00. No payment needed to enquire. Every bike needs an International Driving Permit (1968) with your home licence — except the 50cc scooter, which needs no licence.

What to bring

  • A copy of your passport — we never keep your original passport
  • International Driving Permit (1968 convention, motorcycle category) plus your home licence — required for every self-ride rental, except the 50cc scooter
  • A cash deposit — ask us for the amount

Questions

The 50cc Scooter, asked and answered

Do I need a licence to rent the 50cc scooter?

No. To rent a 50cc in Dalat with us you need no driving licence and no International Driving Permit — it is the one bike in our fleet like that. You still bring your passport — we take a copy and never keep your original — and a cash deposit; ask us for the amount.

Can two people ride the 50cc?

One rider is best — Dalat is built on hills, and a 50cc is a small engine. For two people, take the Honda Air Blade 125: it comes with two helmets and has enough power for Dalat's hills with a passenger. The Air Blade needs an International Driving Permit (1968) and your home licence.

How fast and how far can a 50cc bike go?

A 50cc is made for town speeds and short hops: around the lakes, the old town and the sights nearby. It is not built for highways or mountain passes, so for a long day out of Dalat take a bigger bike or join a guided tour.

Can I take the 50cc to Nha Trang or rent it one-way?

No — the 50cc stays in Dalat. For one-way trips across Vietnam take the Air Blade 125, the XR150L or the CB150X (all need an International Driving Permit), or ride behind a local guide on an Easy Rider tour.

What comes with the 50cc?

The same as every rental: a bike checked by our mechanic before it goes out, a helmet and a rain poncho, a written rental contract with the vehicle papers (blue card), and help on the road by phone or WhatsApp, any time. Most of our bikes also have a phone holder and USB charger.

Is the 50cc automatic?

Yes. No gears and no clutch — twist the throttle and go. We go through the bike with you at pick-up; never ridden before? Tell us and we will show you how it works.
